Center Life
A typical day at Weber Basin Job Corps is full of activities to help our students prepare for the real world. Students get up early and spend the majority of their day receiving academic and hands-on career technical training.
After class, students study or hang out with friends before dinner in the cafeteria. After dinner, students may do chores in their dorms or spend their downtime studying. Most students are in bed by 10 PM in order to rest for the next day's tasks.
Recreation
Weber Basin Job Corps boasts one of the best recreation programs in the nation. Students find our recreational activities to be a fun and exciting way to meet new friends, socialize, and just relax and unwind at the end of the day. We host a variety of seasonal activities including bowling, skating, and skiing.
We also offer traditional sports such as basketball, football, softball, and softball. We have both men's and women's teams which compete in tournaments between trades, dorms, and even center staff. Every October, all four dorms compete in the Weber Bowl, an all-day flag football tournament.
Dances are held monthly at our center as well as a yearly prom. Every July, we have a summer fun day which features a variety of carnival attractions and a day-long softball tournament.
We also provide trips off center to arcades, movie theaters, shopping malls, and area events such as concerts, rodeos, Utah Grizzlies hockey games, and Utah Jazz basketball games.
Student Government Association (SGA)
The Student Government Association (SGA) is the voice of our students and is very involved in the operation of the center. A student leadership council is elected by the students twice a year. SGA members attend weekly meetings and participate in monthly committee meetings. They also participate in developing new student projects and activities for student involvement.
Community Involvement
Opportunities are available year-round for our students to develop their leadership, employment, and social skills as they give back to their community. These events and activities include National Youth Service Day, Make A Difference Day, Ground Hog Shadow Day, American Red Cross, Fire Crew, CAST for Kids, and the Utah Arts Festival.
Safety
Job Corps is committed to offering all students a safe and secure environment. That's why we have a Zero Tolerance Policy for violence, alcohol, and drugs. Any student who breaks this policy will be dismissed immediately from Job Corps.
